Colin Schooler to Arizona: Four-star linebacker signs with the Wildcats

An underrated recruit is on his way to Tucson

Colin Schooler had a very intriguing recruitment. Much like his brother Brenden Schooler (who plays for the Oregon Ducks), Colin was underrated and under-recruited.

He didn’t receive the recognition that he deserved, however, the Arizona Wildcats recognized it and are getting a really good linebacker because of it.

The 6-foot-2, 225 pound Mission Viejo High School (Mission Viejo, CA) backer held offers to Fresno State, UNLV, Nevada, and New Mexico before Arizona offered on December 14. It didn’t take him long to pull the trigger and commit to the Wildcats.

Of note, new linebackers coach Scott Boone recruited Schooler while he was at Nevada and continued to do so once he was hired at Arizona. Schooler has a great relationship with Coach Boone and Marcel Yates, which also helped with his decision to come to Tucson.

“Well I love Coach (Marcel) Yates, Coach (Scott) Boone, and Coach (Rich) Rodriguez. I really love what they are building there. I want to be a part of bringing the program to the top of the Pac-12. They also have four majors that I am interested in. They offer business, communications, criminal justice, and political science.”

Schooler made All-County First Team Defense and was named Defensive Player of the Year for Orange County after the 2016 season. He finished his senior year with 77 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, 2 INT, 2 PBU, and a forced fumble. In two varsity seasons, he compiled 198 tackles, 13.0 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 3 INT, 9 PBU, 6 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.

Schooler is a very smart football player. He can drop back in coverage, stop the run effectively, and stop plays in the backfield. He has the speed to play sideline-to-sideline and has the vision and knowledge to earn immediate playing time as a true freshman. His skills match perfectly with the Will position on the Wildcats’ defense, and should be where he makes the most impact.
