My-King Johnson to Arizona: Three-star Tempe edge rusher signs with Wildcats

This is a huge in-state steal for the Arizona staff

Just a few weeks ago, it did not appear that My-King Johnson was even on the radar to join the Arizona Wildcats recruiting class. He had just committed to the UCLA Bruins on Jan. 6, but only ten days later, thanks to an in-home visit from Rich Rodriguez, Johnson flipped to Arizona, which is where he will play next year.

Other than easily being ranked No. 1 on the name power rankings of this particular class — and possibly next year’s roster in general — Johnson is a huge talent on the defensive side of the ball, ranked as the 52nd-best weak side defensive end in the country this year.

According to MaxPreps, Johnson racked up 89 tackles in ten games last year for Tempe. He also had 19 TFLs, 21.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a blocked field goal.

Stealing a UCLA commit is one thing, but one that was in Tempe, and one that also had offers from Oregon, USC, and Texas A&M is another. This is not a guy who was not exactly under the radar. Every major school in the area wanted his services at the next level, and Arizona is the one getting those services.

To get a better idea of what he’ll bring to Tucson, check out these highlights from his senior year at Tempe High.
