Bryce Wolma to Arizona: Three-star tight end signs with the Wildcats

The Wildcats steal a tight end from B1G country

Over the past few years, the Arizona Wildcats have slowly — very slowly — started to integrate the tight end into the offense, with Josh Kern and Trevor Wood starting to see more snaps and Kern even adding a touchdown. The Wildcats continue to move in that direction with this recruiting class, as they’ve signed three-star tight end Bryce Wolma out of Saline High School in Saline, Michigan. Wolma chose Arizona over Northwestern, Colorado, Tennessee, and West Virginia, among others.

How does an athletic, 6-foot-4 tight end from a town of 9,000 in Michigan escape the Big Ten and find his way to Arizona? Thank Rhett Rodriguez. Wolma and Rhett became close friends during Rich Rodriguez’s tenure at Michigan.

While the tight end will probably never be the focal point of Rich Rodriguez’s offense, adding more tight ends — particularly those that can both block and catch passes like Wolma — adds some versatility to the offense and another thing defenses have to prepare for.

Wolma racked up 694 yards and six touchdowns as a senior, and was even named to the Detroit Free Press’s “Dream Team.” You can check out his senior year highlights below:
