Cal Stevenson, Alfonso Rivas make Perfect Game’s Preseason All-Pac-12 Team

The Wildcats’ offense should be stellar this year

Two Arizona Wildcats have been named to Perfect Game’s Pac-12’s All-Conference Team — senior outfielder Cal Stevenson and junior designated hitter Alfonso Rivas.

Stevenson, an All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection last season, hit .311/.448/.461 with 11 doubles, three triples, four homers, and 30 RBI.

The Fremont, Calif. native transferred in from Chabot College in California prior to the season. Before that, he played under UA head coach Jay Johnson at Nevada.

Stevenson is expected to anchor the top of the Wildcats’ lineup again in 2018. The 5-foot-9 outfielder led the Pac-12 in runs scored (61) and walks (48) in 2017.

Rivas was a First-Team All-Pac-12 Selection and Second-Team All-American (NCBWA) last year, slashing .371/.483/.531 with seven homers, 13 doubles, and 63 RBI.

The lefty led the Pac-12 in on-base percentage, showing much-improved patience at the plate. He should be a force to be reckoned with in the middle of Arizona’s lineup this season.

Pitching is Arizona’s biggest question mark heading into the season, but Perfect Game projects the Wildcats will finish fourth in the Pac-12 for the second straight year.

In 2017, Arizona went 38-21 overall and 16-14 in league play before its season came to an end in Regionals.

The Wildcats open the 2018 season on Friday, Feb. 16 against Bryant.
