3-star safety Kenny Churchwell has Arizona in his Top 3

The ‘Cats are sitting well with the in-state safety

It has been no secret that the Arizona Wildcats are looking to continue the in-state recruiting success they had in 2017.

The ‘Cats hauled in the two best pass rushers in the state with defensive ends Jalen Harris and My-King Johnson, as well as one of the most dynamic athletes in Drew Dixon.

This cycle, Arizona picked up the best dual-threat quarterback in the state with local standout Jamarye Joiner and one of the bigger linemen, David Watson. And the ‘Cats are looking to add some more.

The one name that has consistently popped up has been three-star safety Kenny Churchwell from Mountain Pointe High School in Phoenix.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety is the 54th-ranked player at his position, and 10th ranked player in Arizona, according to 247Sports.

The UA offered him first and has stayed in the picture ever since. As a matter of fact, on Monday, Churchwell released his top three that includes Arizona, Arizona State, and UCLA.

Churchwell has been on campus in Tucson numerous times, and the ‘Cats have continued to do well with him.

There are a couple of things working against UA, though. One is UCLA has offered, and Churchwell is fresh off a visit to Westwood. By all accounts the visit went well.

Secondly, the original Arizona coach who offered Churchwell (Charlie Ragle) is at Cal and UA is going through a staff change, so the Bruins appear to have a slight edge as of now.

Churchwell is announcing his decision Friday at 8 a.m. MST at his high school.
