Linebackers coach Scott Boone not returning to Arizona in 2018

The linebackers coach is not being retained by Kevin Sumlin

Arizona Wildcats linebackers coach Scott Boone will not return to the program in 2018, he wrote Monday on Twitter.

Boone joined the Arizona staff from Nevada prior to the 2017 season, taking over for Marcel Yates who shifted to coaching the secondary (in addition to his duties as the defensive coordinator).

Boone had a lot of success grooming Arizona’s young linebacking corps, coaching up freshmen Colin Schooler and Tony Fields II into Freshman All-Americans.

But like many of the assistants Arizona had under Rich Rodriguez, Boone was not retained by new head coach Kevin Sumlin.

It is unclear who will replace Boone, but Arizona is expected to announce Sumlin’s new coaching staff in the next few days.

We have already learned that offensive line coach Garin Justice, defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae, defensive line coach Vince Amey, quarterbacks coach Rod Smith, special team coordinator Brian Knorr, and running backs/tight ends/associate head coach Calvin Magee will not be returning in 2018.

Sumlin is reportedly bringing on Jeremy Springer to be UA’s new special teams coordinator, and is expected to add Noel Mazzone as offensive coordinator and Clarence McKinney as running backs coach.
