Gary Brightwell to Arizona: Three-star running back flips from Temple

A surprise commitment on NSD

The Arizona Wildcats received a surprise National Letter of Intent on Wednesday morning from three-star running back Gary Brightwell out of St. Georges Tech (Middletown, DE), who was committed to Temple since June.

Brightwell’s offer list includes Stony Brook and Delaware State, but he also received interest from Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Washington State and West Virginia. He is the third ranked prospect in the state of Delaware and No. 109 overall among athletes. He checks in at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds.

As a junior, Brightwell had 132 carries for 1309 yards, good for 9.9 yards a carry, totaling 19 touchdowns on the ground. He only played in four games a senior, carrying the ball 78 times for 519 yards and eight touchdowns.

Arizona had some running back woes this season, with Nick Wilson battling through injuries once again, Orlando Bradford dismissed from the team and J.J. Taylor suffering a broken ankle in the Pac-12 opener. This forced Samajie Grant to move to running back.

The core going forward is Wilson, Taylor and four-star recruit Nathan Tilford, and adding Brightwell here gives the staff some insurance at the position.
