Rhedi Short to Arizona: Three-star safety signs with the Wildcats

The talented Los Angeles-Cathedral safety is a nice addition to the secondary

Rhedi Short was a longtime UCLA commit, giving the Bruins his pledge in October 2015. Early 2016 changed that.

After two visits to Arizona’s campus in six weeks, Short decommitted from the Bruins in May. The announcement came 12 hours after an unofficial visit to Tucson. On July 3, he made his final decision and committed to the Arizona Wildcats.

Oregon was Arizona’s biggest competition for Short’s services after his decommitment, but he ended up choosing the ‘Cats.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pound safety is a great addition to Arizona’s secondary. He is long, rangy, and has the skill to make plays on the ball. Those are the kind of qualities Arizona looks for in its safeties.

Short helped his Cathedral Phantoms football team to a perfect 10-0 record during the 2016 regular season. They won their first playoff game but lost in the second round to Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley, CA). Short finished his senior campaign with 47 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, 12 PBU, 2 forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. In three seasons at Cathedral, he racked up 122 tackles, 9.0 TFL, 3.0 sacks, 3 INT, 31 PBU, 3 forced fumbles, and 4 fumble recoveries.

Short was also selected to the 2017 Polynesian Bowl and was part of Team Stanley.

I like Short. He is a fast and hard-hitting safety. I see Short fitting in best either at the free safety or bandit positions. Both would allow him the freedom and opportunity to make plays on the ball. His vision and instincts would also make perfect fits for either position. He has the talent to be able to see playing time as a true freshman.
