Drew Dixon to Arizona: Four-star Tucson athlete signs with Wildcats

Arizona gets a versatile athlete to stay home

The Arizona Wildcats have landed Tucson native and Sabino standout Drew Dixon. The top prospect in Tucson in 2017 can do a little bit of everything, and that’s just what he did in his senior campaign for Sabino.

He threw for 1,177 yards with 11 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also ran for 905 yards and 16 touchdowns, and caught 47 balls for 564 yards and six touchdowns. He was even the team’s punter. Dixon is likely to end up as a receiver for Arizona, but can play a number of positions and it’s always good to get great athletes like this.

Dixon was recently bumped to a 4* athlete by rivals.com and was ranked as the 35th best athlete in the nation. After playing exclusively as a quarterback his junior year, his coach moved him around for his senior year to fully utilize him.

He committed to Arizona in early June. He held offers from Colorado, New Mexico, San Jose State, and New Mexico State among others. While that offer list isn’t anything special, it’s likely due to the fact he ended his recruitment very early. Dixon is a very long and versatile athlete at 6-foot-4 and 205 pounds.

Coaches like Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech have made a living off recruiting high school quarterbacks because they are usually the best athlete on the team. If it doesn’t work out on the offensive side of the ball, Dixon can likely end up playing a number of positions on the defense. Arizona lost Warren Jackson, so Dixon and Brian Casteel are the only receivers in the 2017 class.
