Francisco Nelson to Arizona: LB recruit signs with Wildcats, spurns FAU

A late-comer to the class that will play a different position

Francisco Nelson visited Tucson as late as he possibly could, taking in the Arizona Wildcats experience the weekend before Signing Day.

That experience made him flip his commitment from FAU to Arizona, and now he will be a Wildcat in the fall.

Nelson announced his commitment to Arizona towards the end of the basketball game against Oregon State, so his timing is going to need a little bit of work moving forward.

While he is listed as a strong side defensive end, Nelson will be coming to Arizona as a linebacker. Which makes sense, given that he only weighs about 215 pounds.

Arizona was not really involved in Nelson's recruitment until very late in the game. The coaching staff offered him a scholarship on January 15th, almost six months to the day after the prospect committed to FAU. Two weeks later, he was on campus, and gave his verbal commitment.

It'll be interesting to see how Nelson develops as a linebacker under new defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Marcel Yates. Having played defensive end in high school, he may bring a unique wrinkle with his pass rushing ability from the edge.

He'll remain a bit of a mystery for now, as he has just this 30-second highlight video from one of his games in his senior season.
