Jalen Cochran to Arizona: Linebacker picks Wildcats over Michigan State, Miami (OH)

Arizona adding a big-time linebacker who wasn't even on the recruiting board two weeks

The Arizona Wildcats landed the commitment of a big-time linebacker in Jalen Cochran. The 6-4 235lb prospect hails from Canton, MI and held offers to Iowa, Iowa State and Michigan State, among others. On Tuesday night, he released via Twitter that his final two schools were Arizona and Miami (OH), visiting their campus on December 4th.

Arizona came into the recruiting process fairly late, offering him on January 26th, getting him on campus just three days later. On February 1st, the Michigan State Spartans rolled in with an offer but came in too late, which is why they didn't make the list for Cochran.

This is a pretty surprising commitment, as he wasn't even on the recruiting board two weeks ago. The new Arizona staff was able to act fast, get him on campus and land him all within a matter of days. He's deceptively fast for his size and will be a great edge rusher; a hybrid linebacker/defensive end. I like him a lot and I'm thinking he can compete to get on the field early. His high school has no updates on his MaxPreps profile for stats, but his team did finish 10-3 on the year, another prospect coming from a winning football program.

Cochran cited weather and ability to start as his decision factors, making Arizona the perfect fit for him. Everyone has been craving these big linebackers at Arizona and they'll finally get one with Cochran. He's ranked 65th among all outside linebackers in the nation, just a few spots behind Arizona commit Jacob Colacion.

His senior year highlights are below.
