Malik Hausman to Arizona: Three-star cornerback will blueshirt and join the Wildcats
Arizona continues to corner the market on Vegas recruits
Though the Arizona Wildcats’ secondary struggled at times last season, the Wildcats have a long history of recruiting talented defensive backs (four of Arizona’s top ten recruits of all time - Devin Ross, Robert Golden, Marquis Flowers, and Cam Denson - were all recruited as defensive backs). That trend continues as Malik Hausman, a three-star cornerback from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Nevada, will blueshirt before joining the Wildcats. Hausman also held offers to Colorado State, Hawaii, New Mexico, and UNLV.
What is a “blueshirt”? A blueshirt is a player who was not technically “recruited” by the school - meaning he did not take an official visit and didn’t host a coach himself - who is put on scholarship at the start of freshman practice. The player is still on scholarship, but counts towards next year’s scholarship count as opposed to this year’s.
Hausman may be the unluckiest recruit in this class. While on a recruiting visit (in Tucson, no less), he tore his ACL and LCL while jumping out of the way of a drunk driver. As a result, he missed his senior season rehabbing from that injury.
In Hausman, the Wildcats add a talented cornerback to help alleviate some of the woes in the secondary Arizona has faced in recent years. Hausman will probably not immediately see the field, especially as he recovers from the ACL tear, but expect to see him on the field contributing in the next two or three seasons. Above all, I’m hoping we see him return an interception for a touchdown sometime in his Arizona tenure just so I can make bad puns about “taking it to the Haus, man!”
While we anxiously await for all the bad pun potential (oh, and talent in the secondary) that Hausman brings the Wildcats, check out his junior year highlights:
