2015 MLB Draft results: Arizona LHP Xavier Borde selected by Baltimore Orioles in 36th round

The third Arizona Wildcat selected this year

The Arizona Wildcats went more than 1,000 picks between their second and third players selected in the 2015 MLB Draft.

Scott Kingery went off the board at 48, and now LHP Xavier Borde has gone in the 36th round to the Baltimore Orioles.

Borde started the 2015 season in the mix for the starting rotation, but after some poor outings, he found himself in a middle relief spot, and eventually not being in the mix at all.

In total, he pitched 26 2/3 innings this year, and posted a 3.04 ERA. He made five starts, and ten appearances total for the Wildcats.

It's likely that someone at the Orioles spotted Borde at a pitching camp in Washington state last year, where he told me he learned all kinds of mechanical and physical things related to pitching and keeping your arm healthy, which translated into a respectable ERA for him this season.

The Orioles are no strangers to taking spotty Arizona relievers. The O's selected both Nick Cunningham and Augey Bill in the 2013 draft in rounds 20 and 39 respectively.

Borde currently has a 4.68 career ERA at Arizona in 42 1/3 innings. He has a 2-2 record with one save. Since he is a redshirt junior, he'll have the option to return to school.
