Arizona baseball starts a new era

Baseball's apparently going to try and steal all the headlines this week, even though there's some pretty great basketball stuff going on.

Baseball

- Jay Johnson was officially introduced as the new head baseball coach at Arizona. He called Arizona his "Dream Job", which that's always a weird thing to hear, especially from a guy who has almost no connections to the school. Johnson's not coming by himself either, as Nevada pitching coach Dave Lawn is on his way as well.

- The MLB Draft got underway on Monday night. Kevin Newman was taken 19th overall by the Pirates, and Scott Kingery went 48th to the Phillies. Keep up with all the Arizona players here.

- It was cool to see the former Arizona coaches (minus Lopez) at Hi Corbett to support Johnson.

- You might have heard about that lady who almost died because of a broken bat hitting her at Fenway Park. But a Tucson-based doctor helped save her life. Go UMC!

- Texas A&M and TCU went 16 innings, and ended like this becase #CollegeBaseball

Basketball

- Arizona's 2015-16 schedule has been released (in a way). Notice that last weekend, where Cal may be coming to Tucson with a Pac-12 regular season title on the line.

- Sean Miller is the greatest, and if you don't believe me, watch what he can still do with a basketball (or three).

- Coach was also at the Jay Johnson intro.

- The NCAA announced a few rules changes, most notably a shorter shot clock and fewer timeouts.

- Rondae Hollis-Jefferson worked out for the Lakers.

- Speaking of schedules being released, UCLA's is crazy hard.

Football

- Pacific Takes tried ranking the Pac-12 QBs, and I think they got it wrong. They also have a roundup of Wildcat football recruiting news if that's your thing

- Gabe Encinas talked to an Arizona recruit in Jake Burton

- Top offensive line target Michael Eletise has Arizona in his top ten. Logan Gamble has Arizona in his top five

- If you're a full-time student, the football team is hiring.

Other sports

- Track and Field is heading to Eugene for the NCAA National Championships. Football offensive lineman Gerhard de Beer is there for discus.

- The Pac-12 announced that Sand Volleyball will be part of the conference next season. That's just one of a few things that came out of their summer meetings.

Tucson news

- This hurts as someone who was part of the Pride of Arizona for four years, but former UA music professor Kelly Thomas died after an allergic reaction to a wasp sting. He was only 40.

- Some people at the Racetrack Program talk about Bob Baffert and American Pharoah winning the Triple Crown.

Police responding to mobile home park at Silverlake and Mission. Man was smashing cars with axe, now on foot but no longer has the axe.
