2015 MLB Draft Results: Kevin Newman picked 19th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates
The first Arizona player selected in the 2015 draft
Arizona Wildcats shortstop Kevin Newman was taken 19th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
This is the first time an Arizona player has been taken in the first round since 2008, when Daniel Schlereth and Ryan Perry both received the honor.
Newman becomes the first Arizona player drafted by the Pirates since Mike Colla in 2008. Colla did play some in Double-A last season in the Rays organization, but has not played anywhere this year.
The Pirates already have a former Wildcat on the Major League roster in Mark Melancon. Maybe he'll eventually be joined there by Newman.
