Arizona Basketball Recruiting: Mark Tollefsen to transfer to Arizona

The graduate transfer is eligible to play immediately, and will provide much-needed front court depth for the Wildcats

Many believe it has been a relatively bad week for Arizona basketball with Stanley Johnson deciding to go pro, and Damion Lee heading elsewhere.

Fortunately, we have gotten some better news as San Francisco's Mark Tollefsen has decided to transfer to Arizona, according to Scout.com's Evan Daniels (although he spelled his name incorrectly):

Tollefsen will be a fifth year senior and therefore will only have one year of eligibility at Arizona. Nonetheless, the 6-9 forward will provide some much-needed depth behind Ryan Anderson at the four, and could possibly get some some minutes at the three too. He averaged 14.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last year.

The most intriguing part of Tollefsen's game is his ability to stretch the floor at his size. The lefty shot 37.8% from three last season, while attempting almost four of them per game. He's not just a shooter though, he's capable of scoring off the dribble and has some bounce too. Here's a highlight of him doing a reverse slam against the Pacific Tigers: 

Defensively, Tollefsen has great length, but his lack of strength has always limited his effectiveness on that end. He's 6-9, but is only listed at 199 lbs. Hopefully he can put on some weight before the season starts.

Sean Miller mentioned during Stanley Johnson's press conference yesterday that the team would likely add just one more player to the roster. This would point to Tollefsen being the final piece to the puzzle.

Since Arizona plays at Gonzaga next season, it's worth mentioning that Tollefsen has experience playing against the Zags as a West Coast Conference player. He notably had a 21 point, 8 rebound performance against them on March 7th.
