Arizona interested in FGCU grad transfer Zach Johnson

The 6-foot-2 All-Atlantic Sun guard averaged 16.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists this season

The Arizona Wildcats are expressing interest in Florida Gulf Coast Eagles graduate transfer Zach Johnson, he told Jon Rothstein of Fan Rag Sports.

The 6-foot-2 All-Atlantic Sun guard averaged 16.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.

Rothstein reports South Carolina and Texas Tech are also after Johnson, while ESPN’s Jeff Borzello is reporting that Johnson has heard from Gonzaga, Louisville, VCU, Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Creighton, Dayton, Saint Louis, and Xavier.

So Johnson will clearly have plenty of options to pick from, though he might not even play college ball next year. He has entered the 2018 NBA Draft, but has not hired an agent.

Johnson posted very efficient scoring numbers this season, shooting 47 percent from the field, 39 percent from 3, and 78 percent from the charity stripe.

He dropped 37 points in the Atlantic Sun title game which FGCU lost to Lipscomb. Johnson also posted 23 points on 19 shots against Oklahoma State in the NIT.

Johnson exclusively played the 2, per KenPom, and averaged 32.4 minutes per game.

FGCU allowed 98.0 points per 100 possessions this season, and 98.8 when Johnson was on the court. Johnson had a defensive box plus/minus of 0.3 which was one of the lowest among FGCU’s rotation players.

Johnson did average 2.0 steals per game, though.

If Johnson chooses Arizona, he would likely compete with Brandon Randolph, Dylan Smith, and Emmanuel Akot for a starting job on the wing.
