Arizona in contact with Fordham grad transfer Joseph Chartouny

Chartouny averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists this season.

The Arizona Wildcats have been in contact with Fordham Rams graduate transfer Joseph Chartouny, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Chartouny averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists this season.

Chartouny has also heard from Marquette, Louisville, SMU, Oregon, Rutgers, Purdue, Butler, and Nevada, per Goodman. He can play immediately and has one year of eligibility left.

Chartouny’s calling card appears to be his defense. The Quebec native averaged 3.3 steals per game and rated as Fordham’s best defender with a defensive box plus/minus of 3.3.

Chartouny appears to be a solid distributor, too, posting an assist-to-turnover ratio of almost 2 to 1.

His scoring ability is a little iffy. Chartouny shot just 37 percent from the field and 32 percent from 3 this season. But he did get to the line 4.6 times per contest, making 77 percent of them.

Plus, he shot 38 percent from 3 as a sophomore when he hoisted 4.7 per game, so there’s potential as a shooter.

Chartouny mostly played the 2 and the 3 this past season, per KenPom, but did spend some time at the point as well. And he was Fordham’s primary point guard in 2016-17 when he averaged 5.0 assists per game.

Arizona needs help at both guards spots, so Chartouny would provide the Wildcats with quality depth, and could maybe even compete for a starting job.
