Arizona interested in 3-star wing Emmitt Matthews Jr.

Another former UConn commit!

The Arizona Wildcats have reached out to another former UConn Huskies commit.

This time it’s Emmitt Matthews Jr., a three-star wing from Wilson High School in Tacoma, Washington. The 6-foot-7, 180-pound Matthews is the No. 163 player in the 2018 class and No. 39 small forward, per 247Sports composite rankings.

“Matthews has a reputation as a player with a strong outside shot and given his wiry 6-foot-7 frame, he can be versatile and play anywhere from shooting guard to a stretch-four, potentially guarding four positions,” our friends at TheUConnBlog.com wrote.

Matthews told Jake Weingarten of StockRisers.com that Pittsburgh and LSU have reached out to him recently, while Corey Evans of Rivals.com reported recently that Matthews has heard from Georgia, Washington, West Virginia, Oklahoma, N.C. State and Virginia Tech.

Matthews signed with UConn in the fall but was released from his National Letter of Intent after Kevin Ollie was fired last month.

Here are some of Matthews’ highlights:

Two other former UConn commits Arizona has expressed interest in are Lithuanian big man Lukas Kisunas and four-star point guard James Akinjo.

Akinjo was supposed to visit Arizona this weekend, but he cancelled and appears likely to commit to Georgetown. Kisunas is expected to visit Arizona next weekend.

As always, be sure to check out our recruiting section for all the latest.
