Arizona baseball blows out USC to win 4th straight

The Wildcats’ offense remains red-hot

The Arizona Wildcats’ offense stayed hot and they won their fourth straight as a result, routing USC, 14-2, on Friday night in Los Angeles.

The Wildcats have outscored opponents 51-12 during their win streak.

Arizona only scratched seven hits Friday, but drew 15 walks. Cody Deason tossed six innings of one-run ball, while striking out eight, lowering his ERA to 1.94.

Third baseman Nick Quintana continues to tear the cover off the ball, going 3-for-6 with three doubles and four RBIs.

Second baseman Cameron Cannon was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks. He homered in the third to put Arizona up 5-0. It was his fifth long ball in his last eight games.

He later notched an RBI single in the fourth to make it a 7-1 ballgame. Eventually, Arizona’s lead ballooned to 10-1 by the end of that inning.

Quintana doubled in a run in the eighth, then USC walked in two runs to make it 14-1.

Robby Medel pitched the final three innings for the Wildcats, allowing one run on one hit.

Here are all the highlights:

The Wildcats’ RPI now sits at 38, as they continue to skyrocket up the ratings and improve their postseason outlook. Baseball America recently pegged Arizona as the No. 3 seed in the four-team Athens, Georgia regional.

Arizona (21-11, 5-5 Pac-12) and USC (16-13, 5-8 Pac-12) will continue their three-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Arizona and Pac-12 Los Angeles.

Right-hander Michael Flynn will start for Arizona. Right-hander Solomon Bates will toe the rubber for USC.
