2018 wing Omar Thielemans commits to Arizona

Make that two in a row

From zero to two in less than two weeks.

Seemingly plucked out of thin air and complete obscurity, Omar Thielemans has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, becoming the second prospect to hitch onto Sean Miller’s program, joining four-star guard Devonaire Doutrive.

Thielemans landed an offer on April 12 and began his visit to Tucson that same weekend. At 6-foot-7 and 200-pounds, the Belgian prospect appears to have a good feel for the game, with some crafty handles, good vision and solid mechanics on his jumpshot.

However, that’s about all we know about him as he’s somewhat of an enigma right now.

No site has a recruiting profile on him, though that will soon change with Arizona coming into the picture.

Thielemans’ lead recruiter appears to be UA assistant Mark Phelps, as that was the only coach following him on Twitter.

Thielemans’ athleticism coupled with how raw he looks is very likely a blessing. Considering how Arizona is not a title contender going into the 2018-19 season, Miller can take this opportunity to plug holes with guys who need time to develop without the pressure of Final Four expectations on their shoulders.

If there was any time for Miller to hit the reset button, it’s this year and who knows, it might just give him the foundation to bounce back stronger then ever.

With the Belgian on board, Arizona now has two prospects in its coffers for the 2018-19 season, giving it eight scholarship players in all for next season. (For those keeping track, still not enough to run five-on-five practices. .. We’re getting there though.)

Arizona’s been connected to nearly every grad transfer in the country and still has its hand in the recruitments of top high school players like Brandon Williams and Jordan Brown.
