Feldman reports Springer was originally planning to take a job at Kansas.
Brian Knorr was hired as Arizona’s special teams coordinator prior to the 2017 season, but it appears he is already on the way out.
The Wildcats ranked 111st in college football in special teams efficiency — the average value generated per possession by a team’s non-offensive and non-defensive units — in 2017.
That was actually an improvement from 2016 when Charlie Ragle coached the unit, but still not acceptable.
Arizona had a difficult time punting, as Jake Glatting and Josh Pollack averaged roughly 35 yards per attempt.
Texas A&M’s special teams were No. 37 in college football in 2017.
