Arizona basketball: Allonzo Trier spent a ridiculous amount of time in the gym on Friday

“That’s work.”

After Lauri Markkanen got selected early in June’s NBA Draft, Allonzo Trier immediately turned off the TV and went to the gym.

He may have stayed there ever since.

On Friday morning, Trier apparently took 1,000 NBA 3-pointers — and made 781 of them.

And his day didn’t end there.

Trier later tweeted that he was 874-1112 on the day. The sheet above says he shot 81-99 on “1,2 step” 2s and 12-13 from the free throw line.

Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller said before last season that Trier wears out UA’s graduate assistants with the amount of time he spends in the gym.

It’s not unusual for coaches to talk about their players like that, and sometimes it’s not always warranted, but it doesn’t seem like an overstatement in this case.

Trier surprisingly decided to return to Arizona for his junior season and is now considered a National Player of the Year candidate.

The 6-foot-5 guard was suspended for the first 19 games of 2016-17 after failing a performance-enhancing drug test, but returned in the second half of the season and led Arizona in scoring, averaging 17.2 points per game on 46 percent shooting (39.1 percent from 3).

But the Wildcats were eliminated in the Sweet 16, and clearly Trier has his sights set higher in his third year in Tucson.
