Sonoran Hot Reads: Costume contest coming to Arizona/Stanford this weekend

Wear your best Halloween Costume to the football game this weekend

Homecoming activities will really start to ramp up around The University of Arizona on Thursday. This year’s has been billed as “Haunted Homecoming”, since, well, Halloween is next Monday. At the Arizona Wildcats football game on Saturday, we’re going to get a potential treat as the ZonaZoo is hosting a costume contest. At halftime, three finalists will be voted on, and the winner will watch the third quarter from the field

The first time I read this, I thought everyone that wore a Halloween costume would be allowed on the field, and I guarantee more people would show up to the game if that were the case

- Brandon Dawkins seems likely to play Saturday, and having his swag and confidence back on the field could be big for this team

- On the flip side, Stanford will be starting Keller Chryst for the first time in his career

- The Wildcats will be wearing the same uniform combo they wore in the Fiesta Bowl

Basketball

- Maybe the mid-game costume contest will have some sort of influence on five-star forward Brian Bowen, who will be visiting Tucson this weekend

- Allonzo Trier was ranked as the 6th-best off-guard in the country by College Basketball Talk

- This year’s preseason tournament is Las Vegas. Next year’s is Atlantis. And the year after that? Maui, in what could be the best field the islands have ever seen

Baseball

- Official AZDS World Series team Cleveland Indians lost 5-1 to the Cubs on Wednesday, evening the series at one game apiece

Other sports

- Don’t forget: beer and wine at the soccer game Thursday night. Cash only

- Ezra Amacher made his debut for the site by recapping men’s golf’s decent outing at Pebble Beach

- Softball closed out their fall schedule without allowing a run

- Volleyball will not be partaking in the Homecoming festivities, as they’ll be travelling north to take on the Oregon schools

- Samantha Czarniak’s journey from Brazil to Tucson is an intriguing one

Tucson news

- U of A research has disproved the long-held belief of a “Patient Zero” in the spread of HIV/AIDS in the United States in the 80’s

- There was a cross-town car chase after a bank robbery on Wednesday
