Arizona basketball recruiting: 2017 5-star prospect Brian Bowen to visit Arizona on October 29

Sean Miller is trying to snatch him from the claws of Tom Izzo

Brian Bowen, one of the top wing players in the 2017 recruiting class, is officially visiting the Arizona Wildcats on Oct. 29, Bowen announced on Twitter.

At 6-foot-7, 185 pounds, Bowen is the prototypical wing player that could thrive in Arizona’s athletic brand of basketball. With high upside and versatile scoring ability, it’s no wonder Miller is making him a priority — at least that was the case when he last talked to Evan Daniels at Scout.com.

Landing Bowen could prove to be an uphill climb, though, due to the nature of him being in Tom Izzo’s backyard and the allure Michigan State holds over the area. While his crystal ball on 247Sports is 14-of-14 to the Spartans, I think this is one recruitment to keep an eye on, and I don’t believe Michigan State leads by as much as everyone else does.

In 16 EYBL games (Nike Circuit), the La Lumiere School star averaged nearly 19 points, on 43 percent shooting and 7.4 rebounds a game. He will have to touch up his outside game as he only shot 11-for-53 (20.7 percent) from behind the arc.

Bowen cut his list down to six on Sept. 28, including Arizona along with N.C. State, Michigan State, Creighton, UCLA, and Texas.

This appears to be his first official visit he will take, giving Miller and Arizona a chance to set the bar high and layout their plan for Bowen’s development and how he would be used in the program.
