Sonoran Hot Reads: Tyrell Johnson 4th fastest player in all of college football
Will he get to showcase those wheels this year?
Last year, Arizona Wildcats receiver/kick returner Tyrell Johnson was hampered by a leg injury, which really took away his greatest strength as a football player. He’s always been known as a sprint king, but this should give some validation to his speed as NFL.com named Johnson as the 4th fastest player in all of college football:
Johnson placed third in the Pac-12 Track Championships with a 10.41 100 meters in 2015, and during the indoor season he established a school record in the 60-meter dash (6.66). Johnson reportedly arrived at UA already as the team's fastest player in 2014 with a 4.34 40-yard dash. He's primarily a kickoff returner for the Wildcats, and averaged 25.5 yards per return last year.
For what it’s worth, three other Pac-12 players are in front of him
- I think most of us can agree that the biggest position battle this fall will be at center
- Only Colorado has worse odds than Arizona to win the Pac-12 South
- Also, only three teams have worse odds to win the Pac-12 Championship Game. One of those is Cal, partially because their football program is an outright disaster right now
- No alcohol sales are coming to Arizona Stadium this year. If they want to make serious money, they’ll do it eventually
- Anu Solomon has found his way onto the Maxwell Award Watch List for the second straight year
- Arizona recruiting target Jaylon Redd put out a sweet video announcing his top eight. The Wildcats are in it

Basketball
- Of all the players on this year’s team, Kobi Simmons may have the brightest future in coaching
- A few Arizona targets are among Paul Biancardi’s five players to watch at this weekend’s Peach Jam
- Remember when everyone was in a hurry to report that Richard Jefferson was retiring? Well, he’s coming back for two years. Also, he must own some Snapchat stock or something. Or this
Baseball
- Here’s a little look at Mitchell Morimoto, who will be coming to Arizona from Mesa Community College next year
- Scott Kingery is on fire the past couple of weeks
