NBA Summer League: Gabe York scores 18 in second game for Charlotte Hornets

The former Wildcat explained Nick Johnson’s influence on him as well

There were only three games on Sunday’s schedule in the Orlando Summer League, which meant that only one former Arizona Wildcat was in action.

That was Gabe York, and he didn’t disappoint.

His team, the Charlotte Hornets, played in the first game of the day against the Indiana Pacers. York got the start, and made the most of it.

He scored a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting (2-of-6 from three) in just over 28 minutes of game action. His +14 +/- was also the best on the team. York added three rebounds, an assist, and a steal to his game line.

Here are the full highlights from the game.

And you have to love that he was wearing the colors in his postgame media obligations:

York said in that postgame interview that he’s focusing on setting up others to make plays in a point guard role. He also spoke about what Nick Johnson taught him.

"When he was at Arizona, he taught me a lot," York said of Johnson. "Coming in, I expected the world handed to me, you know, top 30, 40 recruit, whatever I was. I just expected something to happen, and it ended up not happening. And what he told me was you just gotta stay the course and understand that there’s always an opportunity for you somewhere."

"Charlotte took a chance on me and I’m just running with it now."
