Arizona football recruiting: OLB Richard Cage has Wildcats on top of his list
Arizona is often the first school to offer a recruit on the rise and it's paying off
The Arizona Wildcats have been all across the country since spring practice has ended, handing out offers left and right to some highly-touted recruits, as well as some undiscovered gems. Among those undiscovered gems is Richard Cage, 6-foot-2, 230 pound outside linebacker out of Eleanor Roosevelt (Corona, CA).
Cage is unranked, yet he's been hearing from Boise State, UCLA, Utah and Washington State, among others. Arizona just so happened to be the first to get to him, giving him his first Division I offer, which holds a great amount of value to him. I got a chance to speak with him about his recruitment process.
"Before I got offered I wasn't talking to (Arizona) much," Cage explained about his initial contact with the staff. "I saw Coach (Donte') Williams and Coach (Vince) Amey when they came to my school and saw me work out."
"I honestly didn't know what to think at first. It didn't really hit me until the next morning. I was just really excited about it," he said about receiving his first Division I offer. "Considering Arizona is the first to offer me, I would put them pretty high up there. Probably top of the list."
Cage doesn't plan on committing anytime soon, wanting to go through the process and enjoy it, ultimately making the best decision for his future.
This new coaching staff continues to make an impact on recruiting, using their reputation to their advantage.
"I really like Coach Williams," Cage said about the new defensive staff. "He seems like a really player-friendly coach. From what I've heard and seen about Coach (Marcel) Yates he seems like an excellent coach that I can see myself playing for,"
In his first year as a varsity member in 2015, Cage racked up 29 total tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in the six games he played in.
His junior year highlights are below:
