Russell Halimon to Arizona: RB recruit signs with Wildcats

Adding some more running back depth

The Arizona Wildcats were bringing in a few running backs in this 2016 class, and Russell Halimon will make his way from Georgia to Tucson, just not until next spring, as he is expected to join the loaded stable of talented backs as a gray shirt after tearing his ACL in November..

Halimon certainly has the frame to possibly contribute right when he gets to campus, sizing up comparably to Jared Baker, and a little lighter than Nick Wilson. Of course, it will depend on his ability to recover from the ACL tear.

When Halimon committed to Arizona nearly a year ago, he held offers to several MAC schools, but was garnering some interest from other Midwest schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern and Indiana. He was unranked at the time, but as you can see above, he's worked his way into a three-star rating, and the consensus 66th-best back in the country.

In his senior campaign, he put up 1,543 rushing yards in ten games, tacking on 14 total touchdowns. Over his three years of high school ball, Halimon has averaged nearly seven yards per carry, and has 18 100+ yard games. He averaged 130 yards per game in those three years.

Ball security was an issue in his junior year, fumbling the ball on nine occasions. But those concerns were alleviated in his senior year, where he did not have a single fumble.

Even though he's on the bigger side as far as high school running backs go, his highlight shows off some of the nifty footwork Halimon can bring to the table as well. Let's just hope he recovers well, and he'll be able to be himself in 2017.
