With J.J. Taylor off to the NFL, Gary Brightwell is in line to be Arizona Wildcats No. 1 running back for the first time in his career, and pundits suspect he in could be in for a monster year.

The senior was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list on Wednesday, joining eight other Pac-12 running backs. The award is given to the best running back in the country and is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.

Brightwell has been productive any time he has been on the field for the Wildcats, tallying 157 carries for 915 yards and nine touchdowns (eight rushing) in his career, an average of 5.8 yards per carry.

But Arizona has been deep at running back throughout his career, and as a junior he only carried the ball 66 times, churning out 390 yards and five touchdowns.

Arizona again will have a healthy stable of backs in 2020 (if there is a season), but Brightwell should still have the biggest workload of his career.

Here is the rest of the Doak Walker Award watch list. Pac-12 players are in bold.
