To quote Adia Barnes, it was a “FABULOUS” weekend for Arizona women’s basketball.

Two days after landing five-star post Aaronette Vonleh, the Wildcats received a commitment from Estonian guard Anna Gret Asi on Monday.

The UA coaching staff actually got news of Asi’s commitment on Sunday, but she held off on her announcement due to the time difference.

The 5-foot-10 combo guard plays for Tartu University in Estonia where, according to EuroBasket, she averaged 22.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 5.3 turnovers and 2.4 steals this season. with a stellar shooting line of .426/.378/.835.

Asi also once averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists for Estonia in the B Division of the 2019 FIBA U18 Women’s European Championships, though she only shot 26 percent from 3 in that circuit.

But last February Asi won the 3-point contest at the Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Camp in Chicago and in June 2019 was named the MVP of the Basketball Without Borders Europe camp.

Barnes has landed players from several European countries—and even Australia—but this is her first commitment from Estonia, as well as her first international commitment in the 2021 class, which now consists of Asi, Vonleh and Madison Conner, a four-star sharpshooter from Chandler.

Asi will be a candidate to replace Aari McDonald after the 2020-21 season.

“The future is bright baby!” Barnes tweeted.

Below are some of Asi’s highlights. (She reminds me of UA sophomore Helena Pueyo, another long, skilled guard.)
