San Francisco grad transfer Charles Minlend picks Louisville over Arizona, others

Easter Weekend hasn’t been very good to the Arizona Wildcats on the recruiting front.
A third player the UA had hoped to add to the 2020-21 roster has opted to play elsewhere, with San Francisco graduate transfer guard Charles Minlend committing to Louisville on Sunday, per college basketball insider Jeff Goodman.
To add insult to injury, Louisville wasn’t among the final seven schools Minlend had announced earlier in the week, as Arizona was.
The 6-foot-4 Minlend averaged 14.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game last season for the Dons, making the all-West Coast Conference team for the second time.
Not landing Minlend wasn’t nearly as significant to Arizona as the other two players it missed out on over the weekend. On Saturday the UA saw former Santa Clara guard Trey Wertz commit to Notre Dame, then on Sunday 5-star wing Ziaire Williams picked Stanford over the Wildcats and USC.
With those three off the board the options (see below) for Arizona to add to a roster that currently only has nine players—including two incoming freshmen and three transfers—are dwindling, with Purdue grad transfer Matt Haarms and four-star guard Kerwin Walton being the only two players the Wildcats are known to be in the running for.
