Wildcat Wrap: More ‘fan enhancements’ coming to Arizona Stadium

It remains to be seen if the product on the field will be one of them.

It’s Monday which means it’s time to recap all that happened around the Arizona Wildcats last week. Let us know in the comment section if we missed anything!

Around the department

• Here are 7 freshmen to keep an eye on in 2019-20.

Football

• Gabe predicted which newcomers will redshirt this season.
• He also listed Arizona’s 10 most irreplaceable players this season.
• Scott took a glance at what should be an interesting battle for the backup quarterback job.
• Ronnie has started his opponent previews, beginning with Hawaii and NAU.
• Both those teams are dealing with tragedy heading into the season. Hawaii junior linebacker Scheyenne Sanitoa died Thursday while NAU offensive lineman Malik Noshi was found dead Sunday. The causes of their deaths are unknown at this point.
• UA legend Tedy Bruschi suffered a second stroke but is “recovering well,” according to his family.
• Arizona picked up a commitment from in-state receiver Dyelan Miller, who attends Centennial High School in Peoria. We’ll have more on him later today.
• Brian Pedersen will be assessing the state of every Arizona program over the next few weeks. First up: football under Kevin Sumlin.
• Arizona announced some more “fan enhancements” to Arizona Stadium. It remains to be seen if the product on the field will be one of them:

Skybox Club: New premium seating area offering a first-class experience in a modern and reimagined space at midfield along the west side of Arizona Stadium

Cole and Jeannie Davis Sports Center: Arizona’s new indoor facility, across the street from Arizona Stadium, will be an integral part of pregame hospitality

Television displays and audio: Multiple TV’s are being installed in the concourse areas to ensure fans aren’t disconnected from the game when leaving their seats

Bathrooms: The port-a-potties on the ground level are being replaced with first-class restroom trailers

Lighting: Soft lighting will be added around the concourses to brighten the area

West Side fan area: A festival area on the ground level will be a new experience for fans this season. The area will serve as a great spot to enjoy food and drinks while watching the game on new television displays.

Concession improvements: Working with the UA Student Union to bring more local food vendors in the categories of pizza, BBQ, and sandwiches

Concession speed: More credit card machines are being added to increase the speed of the line.

Softball

• Eight Wildcats were in Georgia this week competing in the USA Softball International Cup: Vanessa Foreman (Israel), Michelle Floyd (Venezuela), Taylor McQuillin (Mexico), Dejah Mulipola (USA), Danielle O’Toole (Mexico), Tamara Statman (Israel), Chelsea Suitos (Philippines) and Lauren Young (Philippines). Team USA won the Cup.
• Those eight will continue competing this summer as they hope to lead their respective countries into the 2020 Olympics. USA and Japan have already qualified, so there are only four other spots remaining.

Baseball

• Austin Wells is, unsurprisingly, tearing up the Cape Cod League:

Basketball

• UConn was slapped with some sanctions, and it could be a sign of what’s to come for Arizona. Maybe. Both schools are in uniquely different situations.
• Here’s a list of all the former Wildcats playing in NBA Summer League this year. Allonzo Trier scored 21 points in 23 minutes in the Knicks’ opener before an earthquake postponed the game. No, really. That’s a real thing that happened.
• Solomon Hill was dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies, the second time he has been traded this offseason.
• T.J. McConnell inked a 2-year deal with the Indiana Pacers.
• Stanley Johnson and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson both signed with the Toronto Raptors.
• The Warriors will be retiring Andre Iguodala’s number after trading him to the Memphis Grizzlies.
• Five-star forward Jalen Johnson picked Duke over Arizona, Wisconsin and Kentucky.
• Eastern Kentucky grad transfer Tay Weaver chose Saint Louis over Arizona and a couple others.
• David Miller is back at Arizona as the director of on-campus recruiting and basketball analytics.
• Former Arizona commit Terry Armstrong signed with the NBL’s South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Track and Field
