Arizona Wildcats legend Tedy Bruschi ‘recovering well’ from a stroke

Arizona Wildcats legend and former Super Bowl champion linebacker Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke Thursday but is “recovering well,” according to a statement released by his family.

“Yesterday afternoon, Tedy had a stroke, known as a TIA. He recognized his warning signs immediately: arm weakness, face drooping and speech difficulties. Tedy is recovering well, and would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital for all they have done. Tedy and his family thank you for your ongoing encouragement, and kindly ask for privacy at this time.”

Bruschi, 46, suffered his first stroke in 2005 not long after he helped the Patriots win the Super Bowl. Bruschi underwent surgery to correct a congenital heart condition, and went on to play three more seasons for the Patriots before retiring after the 2008 campaign, his 13th season in the NFL.

Bruschi is currently an NFL analyst for ESPN, a position he has held since 2009. The Roseville, California native was a two-time All-American at Arizona, where he had 52 sacks and was thrice named to the All-Pac-10 First Team.

Bruschi was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
