Rondae Hollis-Jefferson to sign one-year deal with Raptors

Rondae and Stanley are reunited in Toronto!

A pair of former Arizona Wildcats are reuniting north of the border.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson agreed to a one-year deal with the defending champion Toronto Raptors on Sunday, joining former UA teammate Stanley Johnson, who inked a two-year deal with the club earlier in free agency.

Both former first-round picks will get a chance to develop and build their value heading into next summer. The second year of Johnson’s deal is a player option. They were teammates on the Wildcats in 2015-16 when they led UA to the Elite Eight.

Hollis-Jefferson spent the last four seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, who traded for him on draft night in 2015.

RHJ averaged 9.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in his Nets career, including a career-high 13.9 points and 6.8 rebounds in 2017-18.

Hollis-Jefferson missed 23 games due to injury in 2018-19, when he posted averages of 8.9 PPG and 5.3 RPG. The athletic 6-foot-7 forward can defend with the best of them, but his inability to shoot 3s limits his value in today’s age of pace-and-space basketball, as he is just a career 22 percent 3-point shooter.

Empty gym videos should always be taken with a grain of salt, but RHJ has clearly been working on his jumper this offseason.
