Analyzing Arizona commit and 3-star WR Dyelan Miller

We take a look at the big in-state receiver

The Arizona Wildcats have now added a wide receiver to the 2020 class as Dyelan Miller pledged his verbal commitment. Our original story can be found here.

Here’s a closer look at the wideout.

Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 190 pounds

School/Hometown: Centennial High School (Peoria, AZ)

Offers: Arizona State, Colorado State, Iowa State, NAU, Oregon State, Wisconsin

2018 Stats: 19 receptions, 318 yards, 7 TDs

Rankings (via 247Sports): 1382nd overall, 202nd wide receiver, 32nd in Arizona

Gabe Encinas: Arizona hadn’t been doing too well with wide receivers but they finally got Dyelan Miller on campus and a commitment soon thereafter. They land a huge target from one of the premier programs of Arizona, which hopefully translates to better in-state recruiting.

It seems like Miller was a bit under the radar in terms of rankings, and I’d expect him to rise a few hundred spots once his film and play get closely evaluated now.

Miller looks great on film. Has great size at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds. He doesn’t seem like a body catcher, he’ll put his hands out and bring the ball in with strong hands but also shows soft hands on the fade.

He seems to have good balance and body control. There’s a great amount of speed after the catch as well.

Perhaps one of the better and more mature part of his game is his run blocking ability. That’s typically something that doesn’t get coached or emphasized very well in high school but for him to have that already is a big advantage.

Overall this is a solid commitment. I think he can finish the cycle around the top-900 mark if he can put up big numbers as a senior at one of the best programs in the state.

Brandon Combs: I love this commitment. Not only do the ‘Cats get another in-state commitment, but they get one from one of the powerhouse schools in Peoria-Centennial. But that’s not the only reason Miller’s a fantastic commitment.

Miller will come to Tucson with a great toolbox of skills for Taylor Mazzone and Theron Aych to work with. He has really good hands, able to snag passes out of the air and hold on while being hit. Throw in his solid route running and speed and you have a very dangerous weapon.

However, for me, his most important attribute is his toughness. He has zero issues going up for contested balls, using his strong hands to catch it and hold on with a defender draped all over him.

That toughness translates over to his run-blocking as well. He is a physical, and quite honestly, effective blocker on the outside. Arizona’s receiver corps is expected to block on the outside, so Miller already has a leg up in that department.

A few other things that stand out to me are his overall awareness and body control. He knows where he is on the field and is able to haul in some pretty impressive catches along the sideline while dragging his foot in bounds.

All-in-all a really solid get for Arizona and one that is severely underrated. I can see Miller being used like Shawn Poindexter in the red zone, which will make him really dangerous.
