Wildcat Wrap: Arizona basketball lands Jordan Brown, football adds two offensive linemen
Arizona Athletics are about to simmer down until the fall, but there’s still plenty going on around the department.
Let’s recap the week that was for the Wildcats.
Softball
- A week after ending her Arizona career in the Women’s College World Series, Taylor McQuillin began her professional career with the Cleveland Comets in National Pro Fastpitch.
- Along with playing pro ball, the former Arizona ace has accepted a position on the Pima Community College staff as an assistant pitching coach.
- Along with McQuillin, two other former Wildcats are playing in the NPF.
- We handed out end-of-season awards to UA softball players.
Baseball
- A handful of UA players and recruits were selected in the 2019 MLB Draft. Check out our baseball section for coverage on that.
- Dayton Dooney and Austin Wells were named Freshman All-Americans. Cameron Cannon was named a First Team All-American by Baseball America.
Women’s Basketball
- Shaina Pellington, an incoming transfer from Oklahoma, will play for Team Canada this summer. Pellington will sit out this coming season for UA per NCAA rules.
Arizona Athletics
- We took a look at some of the big names that were once committed to Arizona, but never played for the Wildcats, such as Roy Halladay, Greg Maddux and Stephen Jackson.
Volleyball
- The Wildcats are heading to Europe for international training. They will be competing in Prague, Maribor, Venice, and Milan.
Track and Field
- Karla Teran earned first-Team All-America honors at the NCAA Championships for the first time in her career. She cleared 1.81m in the high jump to finish fifth overall.
- Bailey Roth and James Smith also earned All-America honors, while Justice Summerset was second-team All-America.
Men’s Basketball
- Nevada transfer Jordan Brown committed to the UA, but his arrival puts the ‘Cats in a scholarship crunch.
- ESPN has UA as the favorite to win the Pac-12.
- Former UA assistant Book Richardson was given a three-month prison sentence.
- Gilbert Arenas really hates bench celebrations.
- Chase Jeter got some love from NCAA.com.
- Four-star Phoenix forward Osasere Ighodaro was offered by UA.
Football
- A new Skybox Club is set to open in Arizona Stadium for the upcoming season. It costs $3,000 per person per game.
- That Skybox will come in handy when the stadium is packed in 2027 when UA plays NAU.
- Offensive linemen Josh Baker and Cedric Melton committed to UA.
- UA all-time rushing leader Ka’Deem Carey is auditioning for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, where he hopes to stick.
