Arizona adds NAU to 2027 football schedule

Your third Saturday in September eight years from now has been booked, Arizona football fans.

The school announced Monday it will host Northern Arizona on Sept. 18, 2027, extending a series that will see the teams meet at least once every other year since 2002.

NAU has been Arizona’s most-frequent nonconference opponent this century, having come to Tucson nine times in the previous 17 seasons. The Lumberjacks, an FCS school, are also on the schedule five other times between now and the just-added 2027 date, including the home opener this season on Sept. 7.

The other scheduled games against the ‘Jacks are in 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2026, all at Arizona Stadium.

Arizona is 14-1 all-time against NAU, the only loss coming in 1932.

As far out into the future as this latest game is, Arizona has several on the books far beyond then. Games against Colorado State and at Nebraska are on tap for 2028, while a home-and-home series with Virginia Tech is set for 2029-30 and Nebraska is scheduled to visit Tucson on Sept. 13, 2031.

Freshmen on those teams are currently five or six years old.

The NAU addition completes Arizona’s 2027 non-league slate. The Wildcats open at Colorado State and then host BYU before the ‘Jacks bus down from Flagstaff.
