Former Arizona target Boogie Ellis decommits from Duke

The four-star guard visited the UA last September

Former Arizona Wildcats target Boogie Ellis is back on the market.

The four-star combo guard has requested—and is expected to receive—his release from the Duke Blue Devils, according to multiple reports.

The San Diego native committed and signed with Duke in November. Ellis’ final five consisted of Duke, Memphis, North Carolina, San Diego State and USC, but he did take an official visit to Arizona on Sept. 28, 2018.

The 6-foot-3 Ellis is the No. 34 player in the country, per 247sports composite rankings.

It remains to be seen if Arizona will again have interest in Ellis, though if he is concerned about immediate playing time, the UA might not be the best fit.

Nico Mannion and Brandon Williams are expected to start in the backcourt while a bevy of players, such as Max Hazzard, Terry Armstrong, Alex Barcello, Devonaire Doutrive, while compete for minutes off the bench.

Arizona would also have to clear a scholarship in order to add Ellis.

Here is what 247Sports has to say about his skill set: “Has average size for a point guard. Possesses quickness and slick ball handling. Can penetrate and make plays but greatest strength is shooting. Proficient from deep and in mid-range off the dribble and the catch. Capable of hounding the ball as an on-the-ball defender. Alert to snagging rebounds and quick to loose balls. All-around solid guard with NBA talent.”
