Pac-12 approves 20-game conference schedule for 2020-21 season

The Pac-12 men’s basketball schedule will increase from 18 games to 20 beginning in the 2020-21 season, the conference announced Thursday.

“We believe moving to a 20-game schedule will lead to more competitive schedules and help our programs and league achieve our goals of enhancing the Pac-12 basketball brand and preparation for postseason play,” said Pac-12 Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Jamie Zaninovich.

As requested by the coaches, the games will take place in the months of November and December with “strong preference for weekend dates when students are on campus.”

However, it is not clear how the pairings will work. A 20-game conference schedule still does not allow for a true home-and-home round robin like the Pac-10 used to feature. (22 conference games would be required for that.)

“Changing to a 20-game Conference schedule will improve the strength of schedule for all 12 teams and that’s very important for the overall success of the league,” said Oregon head coach Dana Altman. “It will also be really positive for the fans because each team will get to play 10 Pac-12 games at home.”

The Pac-12 also officially announced the pairings for the 2019-20 season. Here is who and where the Arizona Wildcats (and Arizona State Sun Devils) will be playing.

Home: ASU/UA, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Washington, WSU, Colorado, Utah

Road: ASU/UA, Oregon, OSU, UCLA, USC, Washington, WSU, Cal, Stanford

Note that the Arizona schools do not host the Bay Area schools and do not travel to the Mountain schools.
