Arizona softball run-rules Oregon State behind Jessie Harper’s homers

The Arizona Wildcats continue their blitz through the Pac-12.

Jessie Harper hit two more home runs Friday as the Wildcats run-ruled Oregon State 9-1 in the series opener in Corvallis.

Arizona improved to 22-7 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-12. Three of UA’s four conference wins have been via run-rule. It has outscored opponents 33-4 in Pac-12 play.

Harper leads the Pac-12 with 15 homers. The junior blasted a two-run homer in the third to kick off the scoring, then another two-run shot in the fifth to cap it off.

Rylee Pierce, Hannah Martinez, Malia Martinez and Reyna Carranco each drove in a run. Arizona scored four runs in the third, one run in the fourth, and four more in the fifth.

Oregon State plated its lone run in the fourth when Harper made a fielding error.

UA ace Taylor McQuillin (10-5) went the distance, allowing three hits and a walk, while striking out six.

The game was delayed two hours and 27 minutes after a downpour commenced in the second inning.

Arizona and Oregon State are at it again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. PDT.

The Wildcats have started Gina Snyder (4-0, 1.47) in the second game of their last two series, though it remains to be seen if she will be in the circle Saturday.
