The former Wildcat is returning to Tucson

The Arizona Wildcats are bringing former basketball player Reggie Geary back to Tucson, announcing Wednesday that he has been hired as the UA’s new Director of Development.

Geary played at Arizona from 1993 to 1996 and later returned as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season. In his new role, Geary will “assist in the development and fundraising efforts of the Wildcat Club” per a UA release.

“Reggie has a tremendous history and connection with our athletics department and the University of Arizona that fuels his passion for being a Wildcat,” UA athletic director Dave Heeke said in a statement. “The mission of Arizona Athletics is to educate and develop student-athletes into the future leaders of our community, and Reggie is an embodiment of that experience. His years of dedication to the Block A are a great fit with our Wildcat Club as we continue to provide a championship-caliber experience for all of our student-athletes.”

Here are some more details of Geary’s past via the UA press release:

With business and coaching experience, Geary returns to Tucson following an eight-year stint as a professional coach in Japan where was the head coach of the Mitsubishi Diamond Dolphins and the Chiba Jets. The Southern California native was a member of coaching staffs at SMU, Arizona and the NBA Development League prior to coaching in Japan.
