Arizona makes cut for 4-star Salpointe safety Lathan Ransom

The Arizona Wildcats are one of 14 finalists for highly-touted Salpointe Catholic product Lathan Ransom, he announced Thursday on Twitter.

The local four-star safety is also considering the California Golden Bears, Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Texas Longhorns, Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins, Florida Gators, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Stanford Cardinal and Washington Huskies.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Ransom is the No. 69 player in the 2020 class, No. 4 player at his position and No. 5 player in Arizona, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Ransom told azcentral’s Richard Obert that he hopes to cut his list to five by the end of July.

A two-way player, Ransom had 82 tackles, six interceptions and eight pass breakups as a junior, along with 1,242 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns.

Here are his junior year highlights:

Arizona is also in hot pursuit of five-star Salpointe running back Bijan Robinson, the No. 26 recruit in the 2020 class.

Keeping both in Tucson would be massive for the Wildcats, who are trying to improve their in-state recruiting. Not only are they fantastic players but they would drum up local fan interest as well.

However, it is going to take a lot of convincing to keep them in-state. Virtually every national powerhouse is trying to uproot the Tucsonans.
