The Wildcats need a new running backs coach after Clarence McKinney left for Texas Southern

A big name could be joining the Arizona Wildcats’ coaching staff.

Former NFL running back DeMarco Murray is considering becoming UA’s new running backs coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

FOX analyst DeMarco Murray is considering taking the RB coach job on the University of Arizona staff, under Kevin Sumlin, per source.

The position is vacant after Clarence McKinney left to become the head coach at Texas Southern.

Murray, 30, announced his retirement from the NFL in July after seven seasons. The three-time Pro Bowler rushed for 7,174 yards with the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.

The Las Vegas native was a third-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft after a stellar career at Oklahoma in which he rushed for 3,685 yards and 50 touchdowns. Murray also had 157 career catches for 1,571 yards and 13 touchdowns.

While Murray does not have any formal coaching experience, he would certainly make waves on the recruiting trail and provide unique insight to UA’s running backs, given his decorated history as a ballcarrier.

Murray reportedly made over $25 million in his NFL career (not including endorsements), so money might not be much of an obstacle, either.
