Arizona WR Shawn Poindexter invited to East-West Shrine Game

Shawn Poindexter will have one more chance to represent the Arizona Wildcats in a college uniform.

The graduating receiver was invited to the East-West Shrine Game, according to his Twitter page. The postseason all-star game will be played Jan. 19 in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The 6-foot-5 Poindexter had a prolific redshirt senior season with the Wildcats, tallying 759 yards and 11 touchdowns, tying the school record.

The one-time junior college prospect out of Peoria played himself into NFL Draft contention this fall, and the East-West Shrine game will be an opportunity for Poindexter to face some of college football’s top outgoing talent in front of league scouts.

Poindexter’s selection also boosts his chances of being invited to the NFL Scouting Combine later this spring. Last year, 50 participants of the East-West Shrine game earned Combine invites.

If Poindexter gets drafted, he will become Arizona’s first offensive skill position player to be picked since Ka’Deem Carey in 2014 and its first receiver to be drafted since Juron Criner went in the fifth round of the 2012 draft to the Oakland Raiders.
