FBI trial testimony: Arizona offered $50,000 for Brian Bowen Jr.

The Arizona Wildcats are not on trial in New York, but the program keeps getting brought up in testimony during a federal basketball corruption case that began Monday.

Brian Bowen Sr., the father of a recruit who was at the center of an FBI bribery investigation involving college basketball programs and apparel companies, testified Thursday that Arizona was among a handful of schools that offered money, housing assistance or jobs in exchange for Brian ‘Tugs’ Bowen to go to school there.

The offers were allegedly coordinated by Christian Dawkins, a business manager who is one of three people on trial for federal wire fraud charges.

Bowen eventually signed with Louisville in 2017 but never played there, later transferring to South Carolina before ultimately turning pro.

This is the second time Arizona has been specifically mentioned in the trial. On Monday the attorney for defendant Jim Gatto, a former Adidas executive, said Arizona was willing to pay $150,000 for 5-star forward Nassir Little. Little ended up signing with North Carolina.
