Cornell grad transfer Stone Gettings commits to Arizona

Gettings averaged 16.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game last season.

Cornell graduate transfer Stone Gettings has committed to the Arizona Wildcats, per Evan Daniels of 247Sports.

The 6-foot-8 forward was second-team All-Ivy League last season, averaging 16.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He shot 49 percent from the field, 37 percent from 3, and 83 percent from the free-throw line.

Gettings is not graduating from Cornell until December, so he will not play for Arizona until the 2019-20 season. He will sit out the 2018-19 season and likely join the UA at the semester break.

“[It will] save myself a ton of money and [I will] have another year to play somewhere else,” Gettings told the Cornell Daily Sun about his decision to transfer.

The Malibu, California native had three 30-point outings and 11 20-point games with five double-doubles last season. He was one of two players to rank in the top 10 in the Ivy League in points (sixth), rebounds (third) and assists (ninth), as well as sitting in the top 10 in field goal percentage (10th), free-throw percentage (sixth) and defensive rebounds (third).

Gettings has started in 48 games over the past two years. It’s too early to tell what his role will be with the Wildcats, but his all-around game should prove to be a solid addition to the frontcourt, which will lose Ryan Luther at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Now that Gettings is in the fold, Arizona has exhausted all of its scholarships.
