Texas A&M-CC grad transfer Ehab Amin not considering Arizona

The 6-foot-4 guard has cut his list to Miami, Nevada, and Wichita State

The Arizona Wildcats’ most dire need right now is a point guard, but another option has fallen off the board.

Texas A&M Corpus Christi graduate transfer Ehab Amin has narrowed his finalists to the Miami Hurricanes, Nevada Wolf Pack, and Wichita State Shockers, according to multiple reports.

While it is not clear how much interest Arizona had in Amin, it did reach out to him after the season ended.

The 6-foot-4 guard missed the entire 2017-18 season with a hip injury, but was a mid-major All-American in 2016-17 when he averaged 16.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 46 percent from the field, 29 percent from 3, and 72 percent from the free-throw line..

The Egyptian was also one of the nation’s leaders in steals, swiping 3.4 per game, and rated as the Islanders’ third-best defender with a defensive box plus/minus of 2.1.

While Amin spent a lot of time at point guard in his last healthy season, he is not a traditional point guard.

He averaged just 2.9 assists per game, and nearly committed one turnover for every assist. So his most valuable assets for Arizona would have been his scoring (not necessarily his shooting) and his defensive prowess.

With Amin no longer an option, Arizona’s two main remaining point guard options are five-star recruit Brandon Williams — he is picking between UA, Oregon and Gonzaga — and Samford graduate transfer Justin Coleman, who is scheduled to visit Arizona next Wednesday.
