Arizona reaches out to Robert Morris transfer Dachon Burke

Burke appears to be a solid two-way player

The Arizona Wildcats are one of several teams that have reached out to Robert Morris transfer Dachon Burke, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.

However, they appear to be on the outside looking in to land him, as Burke has already received an in-home visit from St. John’s and has three more visits on the docket for this week.

The 6-foot-4 sophomore averaged 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season.

Burke has to sit out a year, before having two years of eligibility at his new school. He transferred from Robert Morris because he wants to play at a higher level.

“After we played NC State, I knew then that I could play at a higher level. We also played Drexel and I shot my best game (25 points and six 3-pointers),” Burke told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “As the season went on, personally I knew I could play at the next level and it was just going to come down to my decision of staying at Robert Morris or starting over someplace new.”

Burke shot 46 percent from the field, 34 percent from 3, and 63 percent from the free-throw line.

The Orange, New Jersey native mostly played the 3 at Robert Morris, occasionally getting minutes at the 2 and the 1, as well, per KenPom.

Burke’s bio on Robert Morris’s website says he’s:

• An all-around athlete with the ability to contribute in a variety of ways
• Can knock down the open jumper as well as slash to the rim
• Arguably the most natural defender on the roster

Burke averaged 2.1 steals per game, and posted the 35th-highest steal rate in the country, per KenPom.

Robert Morris was fairly solid defensively, posting the 84th best defensive rating in the country, and it improved from 99.6 to 97.3 when Burke was on the court.

Burke also posted the second-highest defensive box plus/minus among Robert Morris’s rotation players (2.3). So the numbers back up his reputation as a disruptive defender.

It’s hard to project how Burke would fit at Arizona because he has to sit out a year, but he appears to be a legitimate two-way player so pursuing him seems to be a worthwhile avenue.
