Sean Miller, Mark Phelps to visit 2020 5-star PG Nico Mannion

Mannion is a 5-star point guard and arguably the best prospect in Arizona

The Arizona Wildcats’ coaching staff will make the trek up I-10 this week to watch in-state prospect Nico Mannion.

A five-star recruit, Mannion is the No. 23 player in the 2020 class and No. 3 point guard, per 247Sports composite rankings.

The Pinnacle High School product is also the No. 2 player in Arizona, only behind ASU commit Kyree Walker, though Mannion was this year’s Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year.

While it’s still early in Mannion’s recruitment, four of the seven 247Sports’ Crystal Ball predictions have him choosing Arizona. The other three predict he will go to UCLA.

“Mannion, 6-foot-3, has been blessed with amazing quickness and hops and great court awareness,” wrote Richard Obert of azcentral. “He always finds open teammates if his shot isn’t there. He averaged 23.4, 5.8 assists, 4.7 rebounds and two steals, after missing the first four games while recovering from an off-season broken hand.”

Arizona has not had much success recruiting and developing point guards in the Sean Miller Era, but Mannion can change that.

So that drive from Tucson to Phoenix is well worth it if it helps the Wildcats’ standing.
